For the Journey

Any day spent with you is my favorite day. So today is my new favorite day. ~A.A. Milne

"You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance." ~Psalm 65:11
Okay, so I have to admit that we've never "done" Halloween before. Mason has never dressed up, and he's never been trick or treating. Since we got Mason and Hannah Kate costumes to wear to Abbie's birthday party, we figured we should get the most out of it. So we went trick or treating with Logan.
Mason was, of course, a cowboy. And Logan was a horse! This wasn't even planned. We didn't know until we walked out the door to go trick or treating what costume Logan was going to wear because he hadn't much been in the mood for costumes lately.
Mason and Logan had the best time, and Hannah Kate enjoyed riding around in her stroller.

Mason and Logan were very cordial trick or treaters. After receiving their candy, they would say, "Thank you!"Of course, Mason did not understand that we were not going to eat all of the candy that night. It was all I could do to convince him to leave the candy in his bucket and save it for later. Everytime we headed off to another house, Mason would try to start eating his candy. And then his bucket got so heavy that he couldn't carry it anymore so I ended up hauling it around. We met several "spooks" along the way, as Pop would say. At first Mason didn't know what to think of this little guy. He just stared him down from a distance. He finally reached out and touched his hand, and the spook started laughing. Mason thought that was the greatest thing, and then he didn't want to leave.Another house we went to was all decked out. There was another spook on the porch waiting for us. He had a bowl of candy in his lap since his owners weren't home. Mason eased up to him, stood as far back as he could while still managing to reach his hand into the candy bucket, grabbed a piece and then ran back down the driveway. As the evening wore on, it got a little chilly so Hannah Kate had to wear her hat. This afternoon while I was watching the Georgia game, Seth was "watching" Mason. I knew he'd gotten the treat bucket down from the top shelf in the pantry so Mason could have a piece of candy. What I didn't know was that Mason didn't just have a piece of candy. He had many pieces of candy. I didn't even bother counting all of the wrappers I found in the garbage. So three hours later when Mason was running around the house and yelling like a banshee, I reminded my husband that he was the one who allowed Mason to delve into the candy uninhabited. He said he would never give Mason that much candy again.
