For the Journey

Any day spent with you is my favorite day. So today is my new favorite day. ~A.A. Milne

"You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance." ~Psalm 65:11
Ten years ago today I became a mom.  This boy made me a momma.

Today was Mason's day, his 10 years old.  So he got to choose how he wanted to spend his day.  We picked up his best buddy and went to the movies.

And then we went to Area 51, an indoor extreme sports and trampoline facility.
These boys did not stop for a solid hour.  They jumped and bounced and flipped and dove and flew and hung all over the place.

And then he chose his favorite fast food chicken fingers joint for lunch, Cane's.
I thought for sure they'd be worn out.  But they weren't.  We came home, and they played inside.  They played outside.

And then, due to a major supper FAIL, we ended up at another one of Mason's favorite restaurants for supper.
No birthday of Mason's is ever complete without a cookie cake.

And that was Mason's day.
Dear Mason,

Ten years ago, I never imagined you as ten years old.  It seemed as if all of time stood still.  Here I was holding you, my firstborn, my son, the one who made me a Momma.  I thought I had it all figured out.  But I really had no idea.  And when I looked at you, stared at you to be sure I memorized every part of you, I had no idea what in the world I was going to do.  I just knew we would do it together, you and me.  And that's what we've done ever since.

You've had me at my best.  You've also had me at my worst.  But you have never stopped loving me.  You have never given up on me.  You taught me, and continue to teach me, how to be a mom, how to love, how to persevere, how to dream, how to laugh.

You play hard.  You laugh loud.  You are determined.  You are competitive.  You NEVER give up.  You are a loyal friend.  You are brave.  You are courageous.  You are strong.  You are kind.  You are compassionate.

You are the best. big. brother. EVER!  I love the way you take care of your sisters.  I love the way you play with them.  I love the way you love them.

Ten years ago time might've stood still.  But it was only for an instant.  And now here you are, growing up on me and almost just as tall as I am!  These ten years have been the best of my life!  And it's all because of you.

I love you, son, and I am so proud of you, of who you are and who you are becoming.  I love our memories, and I look forward to many, many more.

Love,
Mom
